Sanctity

I want to lay down next to you,
And forget this world exists.
I want to be in your presence and feel your soul,
Forget the cards played yesterday,
And ask the dealer for a new hand.

I imagine sometimes another time and place
When we're not lost in strife and perfection has arrived,
Maybe some point in time when you can feel my love,
And not just have me tell you about it.

I wish it would make all the difference in the world,
But I don't really know in spite of things as they are
With this world between us and the quandaries.
It feels hopeless, and sometimes I'm just lost.

I'm lost between the now and the forever after,
Knowing things I've never uttered to a soul,
That there's someplace that can be found within,
Transcending all this time and space.

A mark on the epitome of being,
The place we should have been harboring in
When the storms raged within and without,
And we looked for sanctity in the wrong place.
