Let’s imagine again

Remember the stars?
They're still waiting for our wishes
Like the ones we made as kids,
"I wish I may, I wish I might..."
But somehow we forgot the magic of the night.
Now the sky seems a little sad,
Darker than it was when the diamonds were in our eyes.

Remember the clouds?
Those puffy mounds of cotton candy in an ocean of blue
Which shape-shifted before our very eyes,
Morphing into flying dragons and castles.
We were the kings and queens of a land unknown,
Perhaps rulers of a vast kingdom.
Now the clouds just seem like storm indicators.

Remember the rain?
It poured like cats and dogs while melodies played on the roof
Then the sun came out and the rainbow appeared like magic.
We thought for sure the pot of gold had to be at the end,
So we splashed in the puddles trying to catch the dream.
Now it just seems to rain on our parade.

Remember the dirt?
Getting us dirty all the time and we couldn't care less.
In fact, a little water made it all the better
When we served up those mud pies.
It never seemed to be a formidable foe.
Now it seems we fight it all the time.

Remember this?
When the world around us told us to stop it,
Stop dreaming, stop imagining, stop pretending
Get practical, get real, get out of your head
Be responsible, act your age, get a job.
We lost the thrill of being alive.
Curiosity and wonder fell away
And life became survival of the fittest,
A mere death march to the grave.

Remember possibility?
Perhaps it doesn't have to be this way,
Because maybe the world is wrong,
Maybe there's still a chance to get back
To where our hearts are dreaming like wild,
Having fun and loving life.
So let's play on this spinning playground,
And imagine all over again,
Like we should have been doing all along.
