It could have been

It had become so routine
He kissed her and was gone
Forgetting the friend he had
Never knowing her heartache
Or hearing her cries
In a moment it could have been
Tears upon tears and questions
Just as the smiles had died
All sorrows abounding
But the light stepped in
Sparing the darkness befalling
